Head of Development
Overview
8020 is hiring a Head of Development to lead our Webflow development team, refine our processes, and ensure we deliver high-quality work that meets our clients' needs. This role is for someone who is technical but also thinks strategically — someone who can improve how we build, manage, and scale websites while mentoring and supporting a team of developers. If you like solving problems, optimizing workflows, and working with a no-nonsense, high-trust team, this might be the right fit for you.
As Head of Development, you'll guide a team of Webflow developers, ensuring projects are executed smoothly and meet the highest standards. You'll collaborate closely with designers and project managers to push Webflow beyond its typical boundaries. You'll also refine internal workflows, making sure our development processes are scalable, efficient, and well-documented. This is a hands-on leadership role — we need someone who understands the details of Webflow development while also having the vision to improve how we work as a team.
Note: this role reports directly to the CEO and COO of 8020, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic direction and operational priorities.
What You'll Do
As Head of Development, your job is to ensure 8020 delivers high-quality, scalable, and technically sound Webflow projects. You'll work closely with designers, project managers, and clients to push the boundaries of what’s possible in Webflow, improve internal processes, and lead a team of developers to execute efficiently.
While this role is primarily focused on leadership and strategy, we're a small team, so you'll occasionally need to roll up your sleeves — whether that means building in Webflow alongside your development team, troubleshooting technical challenges, or stepping in as a technical lead on complex projects.
Additionally, you'll:
Lead and mentor the development team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
Oversee the execution of Webflow projects, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with client goals.
Participate in the sales process by evaluating project complexity, identifying potential challenges, and providing technical insights that help shape realistic scopes and solutions for both parties.
Improve and document development workflows to enhance efficiency, maintain high standards, and scale operations.
Collaborate with designers to ensure smooth handoffs and translate complex design ideas into functional, performant Webflow builds.
Guide Webflow migrations and replatforming strategies, helping clients transition to Webflow seamlessly.
Keep up with Webflow updates, industry trends, and AI-powered tools, sharing insights with the team to refine best practices.
Ensure quality assurance and performance optimization across all Webflow builds, focusing on accessibility, speed, and SEO best practices.
Develop and maintain internal documentation to ensure processes are structured, scalable, and easy for the team to follow.
Communicate with clients and stakeholders throughout projects, providing technical guidance and strategic input.
Provide technical oversight on complex builds, guiding the team through Webflow limitations, custom code solutions, and integrations.
Lead solutions for reverse proxies, localization, and infrastructure-level Webflow problems, ensuring smooth performance at scale.
What we’re looking for
You are deeply knowledgeable about Webflow.
You’ve worked extensively in Webflow, understand its constraints and opportunities, and stay updated on the latest developments.
You understand the entire lifecycle of a website.
You have experience building or overseeing enterprise-level websites and understand the strategic and technical decisions that impact performance, scalability, and user experience.
You are a proactive problem solver.
You don’t wait for challenges to appear — you anticipate them and develop solutions that keep projects moving smoothly.
You are highly organized and detail-oriented.
You understand that the last 10% of a project is where good work becomes great work. You take ownership of the details that make a site function seamlessly.
You stay ahead of industry trends.
You keep up with Webflow updates, AI advancements, and emerging web technologies. You share insights with the team and integrate new ideas into our processes.
You communicate clearly and confidently.
Whether it’s leading a team, guiding clients, or providing constructive feedback, you express ideas in a way that aligns teams and moves projects forward.
You have experience managing a team.
You know how to support and develop talent, foster a culture of accountability, and set your team up for success.
You have experience creating processes and systems.
You create structured, scalable workflows that improve efficiency and maintain high standards. Your ability to document and refine processes keeps the team running smoothly as we grow.
You have experience integrating with third-party tools and libraries.
You’re comfortable working with APIs, JavaScript libraries, and other third-party services to extend Webflow’s capabilities.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in web development, with a focus on Webflow.
Experience with reverse proxies, localization, and advanced CMS configurations (and/or the ability to figure them out when needed.)
Experience managing a development team, mentoring, and fostering a culture of accountability.
Deep knowledge of Webflow's capabilities, limitations, and best practices.
Strong understanding of website architecture, performance optimization, and scalability.
Ability to develop and refine internal processes to improve efficiency and maintain high standards.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate challenges before they arise.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience presenting to clients or stakeholders.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-trust environment with minimal oversight.
Nice-to-haves
Experience working in an agency or client services environment.
Familiarity with AI-powered tools and automation to improve workflow efficiency.
Knowledge of Airtable and experience managing CMS data imports.
An eye for design and an understanding of how design decisions impact development.
Experience working on Webflow migrations or large-scale site replatforming projects
About 8020
8020 is a Webflow Enterprise agency, trusted by some of the most recognizable brands and creators on the internet. We’ve designed, built, and launched websites for companies like Circle.com, Vanta, Warner Bros, Pilot, Dr. Andrew Huberman, Hasan Minhaj, and many more. From startups to publicly-traded enterprises, we help businesses build powerful, scalable, and future-proof websites using Webflow.
We’re not just another agency — we’re a team of problem solvers who challenge what’s possible in Webflow. We work closely with Webflow’s own teams on their largest projects and have a reputation for pushing the limits of the platform. Our work spans industries, from startups launching their first website to large-scale digital transformations for corporations.
We operate with high autonomy, trust, and accountability. There’s no bureaucracy, no micromanagement — just a team of talented, high-agency people working together to do great work. Even though we’re remote, our team stays connected through regular collaboration and annual offsites that strengthen our relationships beyond the screen.
At 8020, we’re always looking to add builders, thinkers, and leaders to our team. If you’re passionate about creating, problem-solving, and working with a high-caliber team, we’d love to meet you.
A peek at (some of) our values
Be Straightforward
No bullshit, no fluff, no jargon. It does not belong. We communicate clearly and honestly, whether with clients, teammates, or partners. Friendly and approachable — but always direct.
People First
We prioritize people over profit. We understand that financial success is important, but we refuse to compromise our team’s well-being or the quality of our work to chase short-term gains.
Do Right
We keep it simple: we aim to be good to the people we do business with. If we mess up, we own it and fix it. If a contract with a client is unclear, we do the right thing and interpret it in their favor.
No Assholes
No egos, no drama, no toxicity. We work with talented, respectful, and kind people — because life is too short to deal with anything else.
Give People Freedom
We’re a remote-first company with minimal meetings. We trust our team to manage their time, work independently, and deliver great results without micromanagement.
Prioritize Momentum
Every day, we work with fast-moving startups and brands, and the reality of the work we do is that waiting for perfect information before making a decision is a luxury we often can't afford. Jeff Bezos summarized this well in his 2016 Letter to Shareholders:
"Most decisions should probably be made with somewhere around 70% of the information you wish you had. If you wait for 90%, in most cases, you’re probably being slow. Plus, either way, you need to be good at quickly recognizing and correcting bad decisions. If you’re good at course-correcting, being wrong may be less costly than you think, whereas being slow is going to be expensive for sure."
Why join 8020?
Competitive compensation — we invest in the right people, and that includes competitive pay.
Happiness Program — every full-time employee gets $1,000 a year to invest in their health, motivation, or professional growth — whatever makes the biggest impact for them.
Yearly offsites — join your teammates for annual offsites in fun locations, getting a chance to collaborate, connect, and unwind in person. (The right person will join us in Cancun, Mexico for this year's offsite in April!)
Work with top Webflow developers — collaborate with some of the best in the industry on high-impact projects for global brands.
High-trust, high-autonomy environment — we value independent thinking and initiative.
Flexible remote work — work from anywhere with at least 5 hours of overlap with New York City time.
Enterprise-level Webflow work — be at the forefront of how Webflow is used at scale, pushing its boundaries.
Continuous learning and growth — work in a company that values experimentation, development, and staying ahead of industry trends.
At 8020, we’re not just building websites — we’re helping businesses move faster and scale smarter. If you’re excited about working with a team that values transparency, autonomy, and high-impact work, we’d love to hear from you.
8020 is an equal opportunity employer. We value diverse perspectives and believe that a variety of backgrounds and experiences make our team stronger. We encourage anyone who resonates with this role to apply, even if you don’t meet every single qualification.

Efficient: You're comfortable using a development framework like Mast or similar frameworks, and constantly seek opportunities to improve your workflow + speed.

Who This Job Isn’t For
In line with our core values, you can't be an asshole. Life is short.
We love it when our team can find ways to self-improve, even in downtime. If you need clear tasks assigned to you at all times, this may not be the role for you.
Attention to detail is a cornerstone of our work ethos. If you tend to overlook details, you might find this role challenging.
8020 is — in many ways — still a startup. We make decisions on the fly and sometimes have to course-correct as we go. In line with our core value of Prioritizing Momentum, you may find it difficult to work here if you need every single question answered before you can move forward on a task.
Freelancers/Short-Term Contractors
At 8020, we're always seeking contractors to join our pool of trusted talent for future collaborations. Whether you're a developer, designer, animator, copywriter, or creative mind with experience with Webflow, we want to work with you!
If you're passionate about your craft and ready to collaborate, send over your portfolios and fill out the application below.
Let's team up and create something extraordinary together!
